    The Digital Photography workshop is the first in our series of career workshops aimed to introduce our audience to a world of skills and techniques in the field of photography.
    This workshop will focus on learning and testing out skills & techniques which will add to your resume/portfolio, or general understanding of photography. You will work through a rigorous set of exercises and a short project to cement the learning of fundamental concepts while becoming adept at using your camera.

    All of this under the guidance of world-class faculty who, between them, have taught in various capacities at Harvard University, Boston University, and NGMA, Bangalore; as well as workshops and masterclasses around the globe.

    Workshop Overview
    • The workshops will be hosted on Saturday and Sunday and will cover the following:
    • Portraits
    • Landscapes
    • The City by Night

    Workshop Outcomes
    • The understanding of elemental characteristics & tools:
    • Shutter speed, Aperture, Lens focal length, Depth of field, Movement control, ISO, White balance, File types
    • Understanding technical & menu choices most cameras offer & how to rationalize your thinking
    • Planning a shoot – from finding a subject to previsualizing to adapting to conditions and making choices on site.
    • Thinking photographically – seeing in terms of composition, light, exposure, texture, form, style.
    • Understanding the basics of editing choices.
    Equipment & Eligibility
    • Interchangeable lens camera DSLR, Mirrorless, etc. where aperture and shutter can be set manually (either by physical dials or by the digital menu system)
    • Anyone enthusiastic about photography

    Greg Marinovich

    Pulitzer Prize Winner (Photography) | Author - Murder at Small Koppie

    Greg is a Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist who has spent 25 years doing conflict, documentary, and news photography across the world. His photographs have been featured in reputed media platforms such as Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and The Guardian, to name a few. He has spearheaded a multitude of documentary films. And has co-founded a long-form photographic agency, The Stand Global. He was also the Editor-In-Chief of the World Press Foundation Twenty Ten project where he managed over 100 journalists and trainers across a bevy of media platforms. Leading up to the coverage of the first African FIFA World Cup in 2010. He authored the critically acclaimed book, The Bang Bang Club, which has been made into a movie of the same name.

    Leonie Marinovich is globally known for her outstanding reportage through photography and documentaries that offer a different perspective to life – both ordinary and extraordinary. She is currently working on a documentary project about long-term survivors of HIV from both the United States of America and Africa.

    Over the last two decades, Leonie has shot and produced films for multinational companies like Bechtel. And, went on to embrace the rapid growth in digital photography, managing multidisciplinary projects across Africa. Leonie has captured video and still photographs for international organizations such as the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Financial Times (FT), to name a few.

    Dr. Santanu Chakraborty

    Photographer & Biologist | Program Director, Life Sciences, Atria University

    Santanu has over two decades of experience in photography and has worked to document human life at the interface with nature, the lives of musicians, disappearing landscapes and the architecture of Uttarakhand. Santanu’s creative vision combines multiple visual technologies – ranging from the cutting edge technologies to the historical techniques – with text and painting. He has taught workshops on photography across India, including multiple workshops on analog and digital photography at NGMA Bangalore. Santanu’s photographic works have been shown in a group show at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath (Bangalore), and in solo shows at the Jehangir Art Gallery, and the Piramal Art Gallery (NCPA) (Bombay).
